if your comp is set to the highest possible resolution after the problem may be in you videotape hp gives a roll near the tape cell,a list of possible cartridges the one down 1st is the best (by the way my printer printed color inadequately when i used other than imaginative cartridge- it only influences color nil else).
Have you tried cleaning your print heads? It sounds approaching one of them may be clogged
